One of my all time favorite ways to use my polaroid prints is in my memory planner. The Instax Polaroid printer makes it so easy to print off a photograph in seconds. While I am filling out my weekly planner I can instantly add polaroid images.

This page is part of my planner in the Heidi Swapp storyline chapters. On the right side is journaling and a weekly recap of what occurred. On the left I do a bit of scrapbooking with some highlights from the week. This week in particular was full of sweet kittens and a fun dinner. By utilizing scrapbook paper, I created this adorable background. Additionally, cute ephemera such as this envelope add some interactive elements where you can store notes and other things.

If you love to draw and doodle then this is the perfect layout to try. Not only is this super easy, but it makes a thoughtful gift to give to one of your friends. If you do not have a ton of time to spend on scrapbooking or journaling then adding some bright colors to the background can make a big impact.

Before you decide on how to decorate your instax mini album, think of a theme you want to come across on the pages. In this instance, it was raining and I was spending the day with my best friend. I ended up drawing simple raindrops in the background and adding a sweet quote about friendship. Take a look at what you have taken pictures of and find unique ways to incorporate that theme onto the page.

I love taking my Instax Polaroid printer with me while traveling! It is lightweight and takes up no space in a suitcase. There is truly no better way to take snapshots of your travels than with a polaroid. These polaroid pictures were taken all around Italy. A country with some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen.

Using the ‘Snapshot’ patterned paper by Maggie Holmes, the polaroid images fit perfectly within the designated spaces. If you find a patterned scrapbook paper as beautiful as this one, you will only need minimal decorations on the page. One of my favorite things about the Instax polaroid is how unique and “vintage” the photos come out. Each one sort of has a darkened filter on it that makes the subject pop out.

For each of my vacations I love creating a travel journal. This is where I can keep photos, tickets, itinerary information, and notes about what we did and where we went. Creating your own travel journal can be as easy as you want it to be. I use a plain, simple notebook and it seems to do the trick just fine.

On this page I took some tropical washi tape and placed it down on the top and bottom edges. Then, I was able to fit four mini sized polaroid pictures. For each of the labels I used sticker paper that makes it easy to write on. It is important to journal or write a little description about the details on where you went.

There are so many fun ways to decorate your mini album. To keep things simple, stickers make it easy to add in a pop of color without having to cut or glue anything down. Try adding fun word stickers as a caption, or play around with adding stickers on top of your images. Also, paperclips come in fun shapes that provide additional design elements. Here, I used a palm leaf that is too adorable.

Christmas Polaroid Photo Album Pages

Here is a festive idea on how to store your mini polaroid images. Each year I complete my very own Christmas scrapbook or December daily album. It is a goal to take at least one polaroid picture a day. It is so much fun to look back on the holiday season through my mini albums and see just what I did each day.

On this page here, I created mini paper envelopes out of Christmas scrapbook paper. Inside each of the envelopes fits a few polaroid images and journaling notes. I thought this was so unique and I was able to store my pictures away safely. This would also be a fantastic idea as a advent calendar or for 12 days of Christmas. You can see on day 18 I captured a photo of my holiday pajamas. Other things I kept in the envelopes included shopping receipts and gift lists.

Another great option to store your polaroid images are by pocket pages. These clear page protectors make it easy to slip your photos in and out – no need for gluing! Another great thing about using page protectors is that they come in a variety of sizes. For instance, this one above has four 3×4″ pockets. There are others that come bigger or smaller depending on your needs.

Since the polaroid pictures are mini I like to place either a journal card or some scrapbooking paper behind the image. This brings in some color and cute designs. This page here is a part of my December album where I take a picture a day. I think the images look fantastic in the pocket pages and are so much fun to look back on.

Waterfall

If you are looking for an interactive element for your Instax mini album this waterfall may be worth a try. A paper waterfall is essentially placing photos on top of one another. That way when you lift up one, a second one is underneath. This is a great technique if you do not want a particular photo displayed on the front page.

In order to achieve this is you will need to cut approx. 1 inch pieces of paper that are the same width as your polaroid images. Next, fold them in half. You will glue the picture to the front side of the folded piece of paper and then glue down the back side of the paper to your page layout. Finally, stack each of the images on top of one another making sure you can fold open each piece. On the top of the waterfall I prefer using a journaling card to add in an extra design element.

Once again you can think of a theme for your waterfall and decorate the background. Here, I was going for a whimsical and natural look with a lot of toned down colors. The Instax minis are the perfect size for a project like this because you can fit multiple into one waterfall.

Vintage Polaroid Scraps

Supplies:

Many people love to use polaroid images due to their vintage appearance. Your family may have a vintage polaroid photo album at home from older family members that you love to look through. Anytime I can get my hands on older paper or embellishments is so exciting to me. I love to incorporate pieces that have been passed down such as newspaper clippings, paper, old letters or writing, and cards. Think of things your family may be storing up in the attic that you may use for your photo albums. Be as creative as you can! Plus, incorporating your families memorabilia is a great way to include something sentimental to your pages.

Tips on taking exceptional polaroid shots

  1. Make your subject stand out – Try to place the person or object you are taking a picture of in the center. Or if they are standing in front of a busy background be sure they stand out against it.
  2. Try different angles – If I am taking a picture of people I personally prefer to have them front and center. Otherwise, for buildings and different objects it is fun to snap the picture from the ground up or at an angle. This can also help to get the entire object into frame if you take the picture pointing up.
  3. Make sure there is no harsh light – For best results you will want to make sure whatever you are photographing does not have direct sunlight shining down on it. Otherwise, you may encounter harsh shadows that will create a dark contract against the image and background. According to professional photographers a cloudy day is the best day to take pictures.
