How to make scrapbook covers:

Creating your own unique scrapbook cover designs is easy. The first thing you will want to do is assemble a handmade mini album out of chipboard, or buy one premade. If you want to learn how to make your own mini album handmade, check out this post here. Once you have your scrapbooking album ready it is time to gather supplies. See below for specific scrapbook supply lists. However, the basics you will need are paper, adhesive, stickers, embellishments, and scissors.

An important thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong with scrapbooking. Use whatever colors or patterns that are pleasing to you. As long as you like it is the only thing that matters. Cover the front of your scrapbook in brightly patterned paper and then add in any fun embellishments of your choosing. Remember to include a title, especially if the album is documenting a special event.

Supplies:

1. Scrapbook Mini Album Cover

This cover is playful as it uses vibrant plant and animal prints. The colorful palm leaf background brings in different pops of color. If you use busy patterned scrapbook paper you can break up some of the busyness by incorporating different shapes. In this design, I added two circles to place behind the title and stickers. This helps the embellishments to stand out against all the color. For more fun patterns, I included a mini cheetah and monkey. This album would be great for documenting a trip to the zoo or someplace tropical.

Before starting your cover, it is essential to come up with a color scheme you want to use. Whether that be monochrome, neutral, or a rainbow of colors such as this. You may also correspond the colors with a theme if you choose to do one. I enjoy making handmade mini albums for each season and holiday. Therefore, most of the patterns and colors I choose relate to whatever season I am currently celebrating. Some specific themes you can try out include beachy, Christmas, floral, birthday, wedding, etc. The possibilities are endless with what you can design.

3. Summer Scrapbook Covers

Supplies:

Interactive elements can add a personalized touch to any mini album cover. This is a scrapbook cover that I made to share photos of my family’s Summer vacation to Florida. While we were there we did a bit of seashell hunting. I was able to pick up some pretty unique shells and wanted a way to incorporate them into my craft. In the end I opted for this fun shaker element.

To create a similar shaker all you need is paper, glue, and clear acetate sheets. Cut the paper out into the desired size of the frame. Remember to leave the middle empty so you can place objects inside. You will want to cut multiple sheets out and stack them on top of one another. It helps if you have a cutting machine such as a Cricut so all frames will be the same size. Stack as many frames together until you get a desired thickness. Here, I added approximately 15 frames which achieved the right thickness. Then, place the sheet of acetate on top of the frame to secure all the objects. Secure the shaker directly to the front of the scrapbook by adhering it with tape or glue. Make sure there are no small openings so nothing will fall out.

Inside my shaker I also included a picture of the beach as the background. I love being about to look back at the memory of seashell hunting and look at the shells I collected. Some items you can include in shakers are sequins, sprinkles, glitter, charms, and rocks. Anything that is small enough to fit will be perfect for a shaker such as this.

3. Strawberry Mini Album Cover Ideas

Supplies:

This is an adorable scrapbook cover design that celebrates the Summertime. The best things about Summer are the fresh fruit, sunshine, and flowers. Here, I am using the Simple Stories snap studio flipbook album. It came in this beautiful light blue color which is great for the background. When using a store-bought constructed album, less material is required to finish the cover. Since the background was already solid all I added was a title along with stickers and die cut pieces.

To decorate, I created these cute strawberries with the Sizzix die cut machine. I love the etched details on the strawberries along with the vine leaves. Strawberry picking is a favorite Summer activity. Furthermore, I included even more miniature strawberry stickers throughout the front. As well as a cute flower truck and fun circle letters that spell out ‘Summer’ for the title. Play around with the placement of different embellishments. Here, I included the strawberries at the corner of the album to draw the eyes to different areas. There is no right or wrong with placing stickers, just wherever looks good!

4. Simple Scrapbook Cover

Supplies:

Here is a simple, yet cute, scrapbook cover using only paper and stickers. I bought this premade chipboard album and wanted to add some extra color to it. To start, I cut this pink and orange abstract patterned paper to fit the front. Then, I added some yellow detailing close to the edge, as well as added a yellow circle in the middle. On top of the yellow I added in some stickers which helped the designs stand out against the busy background. I love this model girl sticker which helped to add some extra cuteness to the front. If you can find stickers that resemble yourself they are great to include.

5. December Daily Album Cover

Supplies:

Creating your own December/ Christmas scrapbook is a festive activity to do during the holidays. These mini albums give you a place to document all of the seasons’ happenings. This past year I designed my own December daily cover. I adore the rich green in the background against the light pinks and reds. The holly and poinsettias bring a festive element as well. I used a plaid chipboard frame with the saying “Peace, Love, Joy” for the inside. Chipboard frames are an excellent option to add to your scrapbook covers. They are simple to use and you can find a variety of designs and sizes. Check out the link above to find interesting frames for a variety of themes.

6. Halloween Scrapbook Covers ideas

Happy Halloween! Nothing says Halloween more than spooky kittens and ghosts. For this scrapbook cover design I made the background a plain black and added a multi-colored plaid pattern for the spine. This brings a little pop of color to the all black background. In my scrapbook supplies stash I found adorable trick-or-treat tags. Any paper tags or gift tags are great for adding to your craft projects. The cat design is too cute! For the title I used a sticker and popped it up with some 3D adhesive. This is a great trick to make the title appear as if it is floating off the cover. Additionally, I added a few candy corns and bats. Everything you love about Halloween can be found right here on the front.

7. Festive Scrapbook Front Covers For Fall Time

Arguably, the best thing about Autumn is the changing of the leaves. With this scrapbook cover I wanted to capture the vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges that we see in nature this time of year. This cover was made using only paper material. No extra embellishments or stickers were needed. This is a great beginner project if you are new to scrapbooking or have limited supplies.

To start, I covered the album in red paper. I love how the red border makes the colors in the leaves pop. Secondly, I covered the spine in this bright orange paper. Then, cut out the leaf patterned paper down to size. I also used a 4×4 inch journaling card that reads “Happy Fall” and placed that on top. I enjoy how colorful and festive this design is for Fall.
