Storyline Chapters Cover

When I ordered my storyline chapter inserts I accidently received two of the same pattern. I wanted each cover to look different so I was a bit bummed. Although, instead of returning for an exchange, I decided to do a little DIY to personalize each cover. By adding my own artistic spin I was able to create three different cover designs that capture my love of nature and everyday life.

These storyline chapter covers I created will demonstrate how you can transform these storyline chapter inserts to your own exact liking. I recommend this project for anyone who is trying to tell their story in a creative way.

Cut Out Technique From Jaime Pate

make pretty things

This fabulous pink cut-out cover is inspired by Jaime Pate. She is well known for her storyline chapter layouts and came up with this fun idea to make a cut out of the front cover. I absolutely love this technique and the coordinating colors bring it all together!

In order to cut a straight rectangle I used a six by four inch journaling card and traced the outline with a pencil. If you plan on trying this yourself, I recommend tracing out the size and shape before you start cutting. Next, with an exacto knife I cut away following the shape of the outline. There are so many different shapes you could try as well such as circles or hearts.

To decorate the cover I used some pink patterned scrapbook paper that I attached to the first page in the inside. I wanted to add some layering effects so I also used a four by three inch journaling card and placed that in the middle of the cutout. This was the perfect addition as it shared the same color scheme as the scrapbook paper. When decorating your own storyline chapters cover utilize different sized pieces to create more dimension. Along with the different patterns of scrapbook paper, I added additional design stickers. My favorite being the holographic “Life” sticker which I used as the title. More so, different flowers, hearts, and a butterfly were added to brighten up the page.

Botanical Flower Truck Storyline Chapters Scrapbook

The second cover from the storyline chapters scrapbook is of this pink and yellow brush stroke pattern. I enjoyed the look of the pattern by itself, however, I wanted to make it more personalized to my liking. Truly, there is nothing I love more then flowers and butterflies if you can’t already tell from the first cover. For this specific cover I used different stickers and tags to make this botanical themed design. The yellow flower truck sticker came from the dollar tree. If you are looking for affordable yet cute scrapbooking supplies I recommend checking out your local dollar tree craft aisle.

I utilized the yellow flower truck as the focal point and surrounded it with a multitude of different design elements. As you can see, gift tags make an awesome ephemera piece to add to any layout. I also adore the vintage butterflies. Although, I do not typically use vintage themed supplies I thought these butterflies would look fabulous with the color scheme. Additionally, I added a few flower pot stickers to the scene.

When working with a variety of patterns, especially ones that are busy, be sure to add some softer elements in there as well. For instance, in order to keep the pink brush stroke patterns from clashing with all the florals I inserted a solid blue paper between the two. This helps make the smaller details stand out and not get mixed in with the larger background. The last thing I added is a title. Instead of taping it down like I normally would, I took some rustic looking twine and tied it to the title. As you can see in the picture above, there was a hole punch perfect for sliding the twine through. The “Memories” title ended up being one of my favorite parts.

Different Ways To Use Ephemera

Last but certainly not least is this bright and fun project pad. This is a great idea to try yourself that is super simple and requires no cutting of your storyline chapters inserts. In order to create this look I utilized various pieces from this Dear Lizzy ephemera pack. The pack came with a variety of elements from plane tickets, colorful tags, and journaling pages. Keeping it simple, I combined and layered all of my favorite pieces together. I also thought the tickets were very fitting considering this memory planner is used for documenting all my travels and activities. Each of the bright colors and designs come together to make this such a fun look. Thank my lucky stars indeed!

A good trick to use when you are layering and bundling different elements together to is place smaller elements along the outside. As you can see from the picture, I added a few holographic hearts and small enamel dots surrounding the tickets. This helps draw your eyes to the different shapes and colors. Of course I also added a title to this storyline chapter cover. In bright green bubble letters I added the words “Adventure Awaits.” I love how the green contracts against the pink and white, while also complimenting some of the green in the ticket above as well.

If you wish to create a similar cover for your inserts all you need is a fun ephemera pack. Be sure to choose elements that display your sense of style or show off your interests. I love using tickets and tags because they accurately show off my love for adventure. There are tons of fun packs to choose from that the possibilities are endless!
