How To Make Old Fashioned Chicken Pot Pie Recipe
Chicken pot pie is the ultimate comfort meal. Make it on a cold, snowy day while you are bundled up indoors.
I initially found this recipe in my Gooseberry Patch calendar. Each month shares a new recipe to try, and this was for January. I enjoy trying new recipes, and thought this would be a fun tradition to start at the beginning of each month.
1. Pillsbury Chicken Pot Pie Crust
To start, you’ll want to roll out your pie crust and place it on the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
I ALWAYS recommend Pillsbury pie crusts. One, because it is so easy and saves time. And two, Pillsbury has the most delicious recipe that sticks together and doesn’t crumble when baked.
Of course you can make homemade crust if you prefer. A good pie crust is the backbone of any baked pie.
2. Chicken Chicken Pot Pie Filling Only
The ingredients for the filling include cooked chicken, vegetables, onions, sour cream, and cream of chicken soup.
Cream of chicken soup takes this old fashioned chicken pot pit recipe to the next level. So much flavor inside every bite. And best of all, it comes in a can!
I also thought the sour cream added a really nice flavor to the inside filling. Giving the pie a creamy, rich taste.
Mix all these ingredients together in a large bowl. Once everything is incorporated well, pour it into the pie dish.
3. Cream Of Chicken Pot Pie
The last step is to add the top pie crust.
The easiest way I found to do this is to fold the top crust under the bottom crust. This way, you get extra thick crust around the edges.
You’ll soon realize just how simple this recipe actually is! The prep work took me around 35 minutes, and now it’s time to bake it!
To bake chicken pot pie, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Before you put the pie in, make sure to poke holes on the top for steam to come out of. I left my pie in the oven for approximately 45 minutes, until the top crust turned golden.
Homemade Chicken Pot Pie Recipe Book
If you’re new around here, my specialty is preserving memories by scrapbooking. This includes, photos and recipes!
This chicken pot pie recipe with cream of chicken soup was so good that I wanted to include a page of it inside my recipe album. Not only did I include the written recipe with instructions, I also added photos and embellishments.
The Ultimate Comfort Food
Supplies:
Chicken pot pie is one of my go-to comfort foods. It makes me feel warm and hearty, and I wanted my layout to capture those feelings.
I added neutral tones along with classic plaid patterns along the background. Even though you can bake this during any season, I found myself reaching for a lot of my winter themed elements.
Along the page I added a winter scene stamp, with a cat critter of course. If you plan on making a recipe book, you can add seasonal elements that make you feel cozy.
Family Recipe Keepsakes
An essential element to my recipe book was a section to write down memories of when I made something.
For example, each time I make this old fashioned chicken pot pie recipe, I will write down the date along with the occasion for making it. This way, I’ll remember all the birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations I made this recipe for.
For specific family recipes, you can add in a section of where the recipe came from. Maybe it’s your been in your family for multiple generations. You can tell the story of how it came about, and the significance to your family traditions.

The best way to preserve your recipe books is to use archival safe, and non-acid supplies.
Some glues contain non-archival safe ingredients that will turn your pages brown. I love the bearly art paper glue for keeping my photos and layouts in great condition.
