12×12 Scrapbook Paper Storage Ideas That Took Me Years To Figure Out
12×12 scrapbook paper storage ideas to keep you organized in your craft room.
These are by far my favorite 12×12 scrapbook paper storage methods that I have been using for over 3 years now! I have a smaller craft room and these work perfectly for my needs while being budget friendly. I’ll share with you tips for organizing heavy paper packs and single sheets of 12×12 paper.
When choosing a paper storage option the two things it must have are strong durability and easy accessibility. It’s important to be able to find what paper you’re looking for within a few seconds.
Supplies:
- 12×12 Stackable Paper Trays
- Clear Plastic Storage Envelopes
- Modular storage tower
- Wired Paper Tray (In-store at Hobby Lobby)
What Is The Best 12×12 Scrapbook Paper Storage?

These stackable white paper trays are my favorite ways to store loose leaf papers.
I find them to be extremely durable and can hold lots of my specialty collections. They are also easy to assemble. Each tray stacks on top of each other with special “grooves” so you can adjust how tall you want to build it up.
Not only are the trays nice looking and will fit into any craft room décor aesthetic, but they will fit into any Ikea kallax shelving unit or most bookcases. I keep mine inside of my bookshelf I have had for many years. It is a perfect fit and does not slide around on the shelf.
Another thing I love about these paper trays is how simple it makes it to flip through all of your collections. There is a small cutout on each tray that makes it super easy to grab any paper packs I need. This may seem like a small detail, however when using organizers without this design the paper can easily get stuck or is hard to pull out.
Ikea 12×12 Paper Storage

As I mentioned earlier, the Scrapbook.com paper trays will fit into the Ikea Kallax unit. Because the units are cubbies the organizer will fit precisely into one of the designated spaces.
Another neat detail of these trays are that they can be stacked either horizontally or vertically. Whether you prefer to grab your papers from the bottom up or from side to side these will work with your preferences.
If you do prefer to use a vertical paper organizer, the Ikea Kallax unit will be beneficial for this purpose since there are walls on both sides. This will help ensure the trays will stick together vertically and not slip away.
Plus, the shelving units from Ikea are affordable and will likely work with your budget.

Horizontal Paper Storage Tower That Is Affordable

This modular storage tower may be the best option for heavy-duty paper packs.
Unlike singular scrapbook papers, collection packs can be heavy and weigh down most organizers. This unit however can hold the weight of many packs of paper and more!
Although it is a bit bigger in size and doesn’t fit directly inside of your bookshelf, it is a great addition to help organize your 12×12 paper. One thing I like about it particularly are the adjustable shelves. This allows you to change up the height of each section depending on what you need.
This will work great will you have thicker projects you want to store. You can easily remove a level for more room. This tower is also great for storing containers, chipboard, and stamping supplies.
I keep this paper organizer right next to my desk. It’s easy to grab whichever paper pack I’m looking for without having to get up.
DIY 12×12 Scrapbook Paper Storage Ideas

Lastly, I want to share how I store and organize my used paper collections.
Once I open a scrapbooking collection I will often end up with loose leaf paper and embellishments everywhere. Especially when you have cut up paper left over it can be difficult to store away.
My secret to keeping collections together once they have been opened are these clear 13×13 plastic envelopes.
Plastic envelopes are great at keeping collections together and are easy to store away to use again later. Since using these, I have been able to save many more paper scraps to use later one.
Having the clear envelopes makes it easy to see exactly what paper patterns you have left. Also, you may store ephemera pieces and stickers that come in the collection in order to keep it all together.
These envelopes store the same way as any other paper packs. You can fit them into both of the paper storage trays mentioned above. To securely close them, tie the string around the two buttons. If you have tiny pieces in a collection, there is no need to worry about them falling out.

Another bonus is how these envelopes lay flat and are not bulky whatsoever. Therefore, you can store many on top of one another without taking up much room.
Hopefully, this blog post helps you find a great paper organizer that meets all your needs. Taking into consideration organization, durability, convenience, and aesthetic, these methods are the best in my opinion.
Afterall, keeping collections properly organized will help you know which supplies you actually have and what you may need to buy. Using these organization methods in particular has helped tremendously with preventing me from overbuying.
Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the best 12×12 scrapbook paper storage ideas?
Currently, my favorite ways to store 12×12 paper are using the stackable white paper trays for single-leaf paper, and the Modular storage tower for heavy-duty paper packs. Both of these units make sorting through paper easy and fit inside smaller craft spaces.
I also enjoy these plastic envelopes for keeping my paper collections together. It’s a simple way to keep paper, stickers, and ephemera from the same source together in one envelope.
2. Does horizontal vs vertical paper storage work better?
While it complete depends on your needs and craft space, I personally believe horizontal storage is better. Due to the fact that the paper stays flatter overtime and does not bend at the corners. It is also very easy to quickly flip through a horizontal stack of papers to find the one you need.
Vertical storage on the other hand takes up less surface space. Some people also enjoy how easy it is to flip through their paper when it is upright like a book.
